In the video, she covers herself in pale foundation, saying "African-American? Never felt that, never heard of that, never tasted that, never smelled that". Early in 2017, she created the #EgoChallenge , using the Beyoncé song of that title to promote body positivity and self-love. That year she also released a Pride-themed remix of Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You". On June 4, 2017 she released an independent EP of poetry called Full Bloom .[9] In 2018, Chika went viral for a freestyle addressed at Kanye West over West's own "Jesus Walks" beat. The freestyle concerned West's support for Donald Trump and caught the attention of Jada Pinkett Smith, Sean "Diddy" Combs, and Erykah Badu. She later released a freestyle dedicated to Nia Wilson. In August 2018, she featured on Rachel Crow's single "Coulda Told Me". Chika released her debut single, "No Squares", in April 2019. The following month, at the invitation of guest host Lena Waithe, she performed "Richey v. Alabama", another of her songs, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! . The song dealt with the state of Alabama's 2019 abortion bill and was named for a friend of Chika's. That summer, she signed a deal with Warner Records. Starting in June 2010, sitting around the table with three other women, it all began. Much to the excitement of her already sizeable army of fans in Detroit. With the group expected to be a success and fame imminent, the exciting, newfangled sound that she has made her own is certain to gain interest from across the world.The development of her unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in a talented musical family meant that different forms of music always surrounded Denise. Her mother was a full-time Danny and the Bluebirds and Robinson Uniques ballad and Gospel singer with various bands, and her parents exposed her to a wealth of music as a child, all of which influenced her development. Her first foray into learning how to stack voice began with two sisters on a local Detroit street, Farnsworth it came when he started to sing at the age of 9 years old. Later she began to sing at local churches, funerals, and school shows, which she continued with for four years before finally picking up the flute and Modern Dance at the age of 13, a decision which she never looked back from. As her confidence grew and her style developed, she soon saw a loyal following begin to grow and she became a popular locally with singing with the Robinson Unique, Gilmore Brothers, Enflyte, Visions of Harmony (own group) and David Myles and the Mylestones, granted auditions with Phase 5 in the Detroit. Her talent with a musical instrument only added to her appeal, and her unique sound with a twist started to find an appreciative audience.Here her musical ambitions continued to grow, aided by the sounds of Detroit and that she found all around her. Although traditional Detroit music is where Denise’s roots lie, and there was plenty on offer in Detroit.She is keen to point out that everything she listens to directs her musical development in some way. However, she would certainly include Whitney Houston, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Teena Marie and Regina Belle as amongst his biggest influences. The album Clarity received little support in the United States from the band's label, Capitol Records. The band purchased albums directly from the distributor and shipped them independently to Europe, achieving success in Germany. Realizing they were not valued by their label, they left for DreamWorks. Their next album, Bleed American , found much greater success stateside due to the catchy single and provocative music video 'The Middle'. The album's name was changed to Jimmy Eat World after the events of September 11, 2001 in order to avoid misinterpretation of the original title. Their latest album Futures was released in 2004. The name Jimmy Eat World does not refer to Jim Adkins. Tom Linton's younger siblings, Ed and Jimmy fought constantly when they were younger. Jimmy, who was stronger and overweight, would usually win. Ed, at 8-years-old, as revenge, drew with crayons a picture of Jimmy shoving the entire world into his gaping mouth with the caption, 'Jimmy eat world.' The picture, and by extension the band name, may have been inspired by an episode of the cartoon show Tiny Toon Adventures, where the regulars put on a student film festival. Dizzy Devil's film, 'Dizzy Eat World', was a 5 second piece drawn crudely in crayon where Dizzy's gaping maw engulfed the Earth. The piece met with deafening silence from the toon audience.

Known in music circles as “GMusic”, he is the Director/Owner of GMusic Entertainment, LLC, the home of the popular Washington, DC area Jazz group “The Spirit of Jazz.” His company manages several bands and musicians on the east coast, including gospel, country, R&B, jazz, and classic rock groups. Geno Marriott was born in Philadelphia, Pa., but his family moved to the Raleigh, North Carolina area in a small community called,”Riley Hill”, when he was 4 years old, for what his father called a “reboot in life.” One day after his little league football practice, his parents bought him an alto saxophone. He wanted to play trumpet but his mother said, “I like the way the saxophone looks better.” Well from that very moment Geno studied and played music in his room then onto, Wendell Elementary School then to East Wake High School and then eventually in college at Howard University. He left his studies in music to early,to… “make money” in the Information Technology Industry. For nearly two decades, Mr. Marriott worked to “make money”, but he was not fulfilling his real dream of performing music. After years of soul searching and experiencing the ups and downs of life, Geno knew that music was his saving station in life. He purchased a saxophone in 2009 and practiced until he could blow a note or two. He first gig was for $45 dollars in Baltimore, MD. He was happy that someone paid him to do what he loved to do! Over the next few years he performed with other musicians and bands trying to find his niche in the music industry. In 2015 Geno met Kevin Carter, Tony Brown, Patrick Clark and Ralph “Bubbie” Jackson. This group became known as “The Spirit of Jazz.” The Spirit of Jazz began performing for private events, small and large across the region starting in Washington, DC, Hampton,Va., Philadelphia, Pa,The Carolinas ,Atlanta, Florida and New York City. They performed for an entire summer in 2017 in Manhattan inside of the Historic Flat Iron Hotel. Chenier was raised in an indigenous American culture with its distinctive language, cuisine and music. He delivers soulful vocals along with masterful accordion-driven Zydeco and Blues. Chenier, a GRAMMY®-nominated, world-renowned musician and recording artist, has performed alongside many internationally recognized artists including his GRAMMY® awarded father, Clifton Chenier (“The King of Zydeco”), Paul Simon, Joe Sample and Ray Parker, Jr. He appeared on the Daily Show, CNN and was featured on VH1 and Entertainment Weekly. Clayton Joseph (C.J) Chenier was born September 28, 1957 - the son of the great King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier. C.J.'s father was the first Creole musician to win a Grammy Award. C.J. spent his childhood in the tough tenement housing projects of Port Arthur, Texas. His earliest musical influences were an eclectic mix of funk, soul, jazz and Motown, and his first musical instruments were piano, tenor saxophone and flute. It wasn't until his 21st birthday, after winning a scholarship and studying music at Texas Southern University, that C.J. first performed with his famous father and the legendary Red Hot Louisiana band. On the road his father showed him how to front a world class touring band - teaching C.J. how to run the family business and how to develop his lifelong passion for music into a career. When Clifton died in 1987, his son said it only felt natural to carry on the legacy - and he stepped up to lead the Red Hot Louisiana Band. He recorded his debut album for the great American independent label, Arhoolie Records. As he told a journalist at the time, he does not try to imitate his father's playing: "I play it the way I play it. All my father really told me was to do the best I could do with my own style." In the following years C.J. would record albums Slash Records and the legendary Chicago label Alligator Records. Today, C.J. continues to record and rack up honors and awards. This year, he is being honored along with his late friend, Clifford Antone, in the acclaimed Museum of the Gulf Coast's Music Hall of Fame in the Golden Triangle; where he will join the likes of Janis Joplin, Tex Ritter, Percy Sledge, George Jones, Marcia Ball, Johnny Winter, The Big Bopper, ZZ Top and, of course, his father, Clifton Chenier. Founded in 1993 by Brian Wicker and Kyle Copeland. The original line-up included Joe Williams (bass), Brent Childers (drums) and Bill Jones (vocals). Their inaugural gig was at The Filling Station in Terrell, Texas. Like many bands, The Silvertones have had several line-up changes throughout the years. One of the most influential Silvertones members was Walter Delesandri on lead guitar. Sadly, Walt passed away in 2003 from a massive heart attack and he is still greatly missed. Each member that has moved through the band brought their own style, soul & contributed their talents to The Silvertones reputation as a “killer” live blues band, in addition to being a four-time winner of the Dallas Observer Best Blues Band award. Since 2012, the band's lineup has solidified with original member and founder, Brian Wicker on bass, Randy Ball on drums, Leo De La Vega on guitar, and Rob Donavan on lead guitar. The Silvertones’ set-list, with about half being original, reflects the various influences that the band members grew up listening to. Their sound is primarily blues, with a hint of jazz, and an infusion of swing, rockabilly, and rock & roll. Averaging 80 gigs a year, you can see The Silvertones live at Dallas and Fort Worth music festivals, clubs, restaurants, and even at Fort Worth Swing Dance Society dances. The original members were eager to explore the artistic world of vocal music with an emphasis on jazz, pop and folk music. The group quickly gained an international audience and has grown to become one of the cornerstones of modern a cappella. Today the legacy of The Real Group is maintained and further developed by worldwide concert tours, recordings, educational mentoring and published scores. The mentorship has evolved over the years and continuously seeks to integrate artistic aspirations with human rights, ecological awareness, global concern and a feministic mindset. The organization is today owned and managed by Margareta Bengtson, Anders Edenroth, Katarina Henryson and Peder Karlsson. Anders Jalkeus is no longer a part of the organization and has had no connection with the artistic or educational work of The Real Group since 2015. The Singers Clara Fornander I grew up in the South of Sweden surrounded by music through participating in choirs and orchestras.After high-school I began to focus on jazz and song-writing and eventually moved to Stockholm where I studied my jazz bachelor at the Royal College of Music. I’ve always loved singing with other people – both a cappella and with different kinds of bands. The last few years I’ve been freelancing in a wide range of contexts and constellations. Now I am extremely happy to be a part of The Real Group and to have the chance to contribute and learn from my fellow group members. Joanné Nugas I was first introduced to choir music at the age of seven when I joined Vårby Gård Children’s Choir. This led to studies at Adolf Fredriks School of Music a few years later, where all the original members of The Real Group attended primary school. I remembered that the group were (and still are) icons, and now it feels so surreal to be one of the new members. I then continued to study vocal performance at Rytmus Musikergymnasiet, and since 2012 I have been freelancing as a singer and I’ve sung with many prominent Swedish artists. Today I’m active in genres like soul, pop, jazz and R’n’B. Alongside this I give vocal and piano lessons. Johannes Rückert Becker I’ve been an enthusiast of vocal music for quite some time and was quick to leave the woods of Småland to dive deeper into the field of a cappella music. I then ended up on Liljeholmens Folkhögskola, studying vocal group singing and my interest skyrocketed! To be a part of The Real Group is truly a dream come true! I’ve been living in Malmö for the past decade where I’ve also studied to become a voice teacher/choir conductor. Since then I’ve worked at a number of different schools specializing in pop, jazz and musical theatre. Alongside teaching, I’ve been making music around the Øresund region and have had the pleasure of singing in the international vocal group Touché. Axel Berntzon I am from Värmdö and I have played music all my life. I started out in a choir at the age of two and have since then studied a plethora of different instruments and have found myself in many disparate musical situations, playing anything from bass steelpans in a calypso band to harmonica with blues bands. I have always had a big passion for vocal music and my biggest inspiration is the group Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. I am really excited to get to be a part of The Real Group, they are sort of childhood heroes of mine!During my vocal studies in high school I took up trumpet and later attended the jazz trumpet program at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Daniele Dees It wasn’t until adulthood that I started focusing on my music interest, mainly by playing the guitar and later on singing. I fell head over heels and skyrocketed through my musical development as I started singing in choirs and later on got accepted to a vocal group oriented education at Liljeholmens Folkhögskola. In addition to this, I also had time to study sustainable development at Uppsala University.
