BHT formed in Boulder, Colorado by Todd Park Mohr on guitar and vocals, Rob Squires on bass and vocals, and Brian Nevin on drums and vocals. The three had been friends in high school, and they formed the band in 1986 while they were attending the University of Colorado. The band quickly found an audience in their home state, and were soon touring regularly on the West Coast and through the Mountain States. In 1989, the group released their first album, Another Mayberry , which was issued through their own label, Big Records. A collection of live recordings, Midnight Radio , was BHT's second release in 1990.As their following grew, major labels began to take notice, and the band struck a deal with the Warner Bros.-distributed Giant Records. The group's first album for Giant, 1993's Sister Sweetly , went platinum in the wake of the successful singles "Bittersweet," "Circle," and "Broken Hearted Savior," and BHT signed on as one of the headline acts for the 1993 edition of the H.O.R.D.E. touring festival. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 2008, Alex studied saxophone performance at the Eastman school of music in Rochester NY. He returned to Seattle in 2013, forming his own jazz quintet and becoming a first call performer with many of Seattle’s finest bands including the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra and The Seattle Symphony. Alex is also a passionate educator teaching both tap dance and music as a full time teacher and guest educator for the last decade. He currently teaches elementary band and orchestra for Seattle Public Schools and Tap Dance courses for the University of Washington dance department. Both Arjen and his older brother Gjalt were good students, but unlike Gjalt, Arjen wasn’t interested much in studying. A notorious trouble-maker in class, Arjen decided to pursue a career in the music business after graduating high school. During his teens, Gjalt always teased Arjen a lot, and Arjen has been taking his revenge by playing jokes on his brother in the credits of his Ayreon CDs. If you look carefully, you’ll find a Gjalt ‘joke’ in the booklet of every CD released after 1995. Arjen’s love of music was sparked in the 60s, when he became a big fan of the Beatles. He started buying albums in the early seventies when the glam rock era started and bands such as T-Rex, Alice Cooper, The Sweet, David Bowie were rising stars. Arjen really wanted to be in a band but he was too lazy to learn to play an instrument so he started a play-back band mimicking his heroes Alice Cooper, Slade, and The Sweet. He actually did get a lot of gigs in schools and already then he was a busy guy. Then one day one of the older pupils approached Arjen saying “You have to listen to this,” and handed him a copy of Deep Purple’s ‘Made in Japan’. “Glam rock is OK, but this is really great.” When Arjen listened to it and heard Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar playing, he knew what he wanted: to play guitar! So he learned to play guitar and went through a stage where he had a lot of different bands until 1980. One of these bands was called ‘Mover’.
