< Zydeco Acts < Previous Next > Lafayette, Louisiana, USA Terrance Simien and The Zydeco Experience Zydeco Acts For nearly 40 years, two- time GRAMMY award winning, 8th generation Louisiana Creole, Terrance Simien, has been shattering the myths and often misinformation, about what his indigenous Zydeco roots music is – and is not . It most certainly is American roots music and it is music born of the black and mixed race French speaking Creoles of South Louisiana. It’s exhilarating and as complex and diverse as the Creoles. It’s also more than just one rhythm and one tempo. Sure it’s about dancing; “less dancing please”, said no-one ever! But, it’s also about grooving in place and dancing freely. It is also definitely about the vocal performance. Terrance’s lead vocals and the stunning three part harmonies of he, Danny and Stan – are proof positive that vocal performances matter – a lot! Finally, zydeco music is dynamic and evolving to remain relevant and allow its artists to express themselves within the genre without constraints. Miller also began earning songwriter credits, contributing two original songs to Rowdy Kate’s 2007 EP. In 2010, Miller formed the rockabilly trio Twilight Drifters as the guitarist and lead singer. The Twilight Drifters would earn bill credits that include the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Festival, The Rockabilly Extravaganza, and the Redwood Coast Music Festival, and share marquis with such names as The Cherry Popping Daddies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys, and Deke Dickerson. The Twilight Drifters recorded three albums including numerous original songs by Miller, and were nominated for an Ameripolitan Award in 2018. In 2015, Miller’s love for western swing music led to him co-found the trio Sactown Playboys with Olen Dillingham (student of Tiny Moore himself) and Zack Sapunor (Hot Club of Cowtown) paying homage to legends such as Bob Wills, Billy Jack Wills, Les Paul, and Jimmie Rivers. In 2018, Miller was inducted in the Sacramento Western Swing Society Hall of Fame, for his work with the trio, including a self-titled album that made number 2 on western swing aficionado Mike Gross’s top ten albums of 2019. Luther makes four appearances at the Apollo Theater’s brutal Amateur Night competition, but never wins. The Shades of Jade that appeared on Apollo Amateur Night consisted of Luther Vandross, Fonzi Thornton, Bruce Wallace, Gayle Matthews and Brenda West. BHT formed in Boulder, Colorado by Todd Park Mohr on guitar and vocals, Rob Squires on bass and vocals, and Brian Nevin on drums and vocals. The three had been friends in high school, and they formed the band in 1986 while they were attending the University of Colorado. The band quickly found an audience in their home state, and were soon touring regularly on the West Coast and through the Mountain States. In 1989, the group released their first album, Another Mayberry , which was issued through their own label, Big Records. A collection of live recordings, Midnight Radio , was BHT's second release in 1990.As their following grew, major labels began to take notice, and the band struck a deal with the Warner Bros.-distributed Giant Records. The group's first album for Giant, 1993's Sister Sweetly , went platinum in the wake of the successful singles "Bittersweet," "Circle," and "Broken Hearted Savior," and BHT signed on as one of the headline acts for the 1993 edition of the H.O.R.D.E. touring festival. Upon honorable discharge in the Fall of 2009, he moved back to Texas, and eventually landed a job in Brenham, TX as a power lineman for the city. It was then that he started a band called 'The Linemen'. The group disbanded in 2012, the same year their album was released. Leaving the power line business in 2013, Hodges started his solo career, landing a record deal with 2 independent record labels. In 2015, with the songwriting help of his wife (Jamie), he released his first song 'Getting Back to Country'. It did well, peaking at #23 on the Texas Charts. That same year, Hodges was invited to the The Country Music Association of Texas Awards, where they named him the Male Rising Star of Texas in 2016. < World Beats Pascal Bokar World Beat Acts Born in Paris, France and raised in Mali and Senegal, West Africa, Pascal Bokar had a chance growing up to hear the musical, harmonic, melodic, rhythmic, dance and spoken words traditions of West African music and culture that informed his heritage through the musical legacies of instruments such as the Ngoni (banjo) or balafon (ancestor of xylophone) which will later define the early cultural and musical foundations of the American South through the migrations of West Africans through the Atlantic Slave Trade (1550-1888). “As a musician, I have always tried to synthesize the convergence of African esthetics and appreciate their influence in the music of the African American communities of the American South, from the rural sounds of the Blues and Gospel into this music we call Jazz.” Pascal Bokar studied at the National School of Arts in Dakar, Senegal and at the National Conservatory of Nice, France where he started working professionally with reedman Barney Wilen. In 1983, Pascal attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA USA where he received the Jim Hall Jazz Master Award for Guitarists. JARED BURNETT From Cirque Productions Violinist Jared Burnett landed a spot performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17. He went on to perform at some of the country's most prestigious music venues, including New York City's Carnegie Hall. Jared's career really took stride when he landed a gig with "Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy," performing nightly at the Broadway Theatre in New York City and most recently opened up as a solo artist for Natasha Bedingfield and The Plain White T's. Jared has also made personal appearances on Live! with Regis and Kelly, MTV, NBC, CBS and Fox News. DAYVE STEWART From Al Green's Band Dayve Stewart is one of the country's premier saxophone players. He has toured with double GRAMMY winning artist Paul Brown, the legendary 8x GRAMMY winning Al Green, and the Ray Charles Tribute, to name a few. Dayve has completed two jazz infused, stellar world tours that were featured in a recent television documentary. Dayve has also toured the Caribbean with the luxury cruise line, Silversea. Dayve's Band is currently polishing the final release of their 4th CD called "Feels So Good." For the past 3 years Dayve has been the powerhouse horn section leader for the Tom Sartori Band.

We're four musicians who pursue a lifelong passion for good music and great live performance. We all come from diverse backgrounds of professional music performance. Like you, we love the music from the 60', 70's, 80's and 90's. It was such a prolific and huge time in popular music. Great bands, great writing, and great playing. You will love how we perform these great tunes. We do tight, harmonic vocals along with tasteful, well thought out insturmentation. OITW as a band has evolved over the years, starting out as a trio, doing mostly acoustic tunes, to adding a fourth member on keyboards. We have maintained that mix of vocals and instruments over the last several years, with personnel occasionally changing as our lives, jobs, etc. change. You will love the current band. It is the best it has ever been, with amazing tunes, vocals and instrumentation. The name: Of course Olde & in the Way is a somewhat derogatory phrase, if you want to take it that way. We prefer to be a bit self deprecating in our overall view of our journey on this planet. Actually we "lifted" the name from a now pretty much defunct bluegrass group that was composed of Jerry Garcia (deceased), David Grisman, Herb Pederson, and Vassar Clements (deceased). We were amused by the phrase,and determined to use it for a band name when the time was right.
