Not only was there advance news of the band’s first studio album since 2013 – due in the autumn of 2022 – but the return of their keyboard player Kjartan Sveinsson after an absence of ten years, to rejoin lead singer/guitarist Jónsi and bassist Georg Holm. News was subsequently confirmed of the band’s first live dates in five years, starting on April 30th in Mexico and winding its way across the US and Canada to end in New York on June 18th. With Kjartan back in the band, says Jónsi, “It’s really normal. It doesn’t feel that long apart at all.” “It’s bit like nothing happened,” ventures Kjartan. “Maybe because we had worked a lot together before. There is a saying in Icelandic, and in English too, that we have hit the ground running.” Since breaking internationally in 1999 with their uniquely brilliant second album Ágætis byrjun, which won the inaugural US Shortlist Prize for Artistic Achievement in Music, Sigur Rós have been a global sensation, from their six number one albums in Iceland to platinum-selling albums and sell-our tours in all directions. It’s hard to think of another band that so creatively fuses the apparent opposing forces of majesty and intimacy, drawing on ambient and neo-classical strains as much as rock and shoegaze, spearheaded by Jónsi’s haunting falsetto and reverberating guitar (often played with a cello bow). If you believe in psycho-geography, it makes sense that the compact island that Sigur Rós call home is a wild landscape of volcanic rock, fire and ice, with mountains, glaciers and sea in every direction. If the band’s music taps the power within, their creative choices look outward, and upward, not just touring overseas but releasing their own film documentaries, including Route One, filmed on Iceland’s ring road in permanent daylight on the longest day of the year and broadcast live on national TV and YouTube, to a soundtrack created by generative music software. Hollywood, independent film and TV have used their music extensively including the BBC natural history series Planet Earth. And they have created special recordings for The Simpsons and Game Of Thrones (even appearing on screen for the latter) in 2013. They’ve collaborated with Icelandic folk heroes on the stirring orchestrated/choral opera Odin’s Raven Magic (a live version was finally released in 2020 having last been performed in 2004), and with Radiohead for music for Merce Cunningham’s dance piece Split Sides. The beginning of a thrilling new chapter in Sigur Rós’ life follows the departure of drummer Orri Páll Dýrason (in 2018), Jónsi moving to Los Angeles, to continue work on his second solo album (Shiver was released in 2020, and its surprise sequel Obsidian in 2021 in conjunction with a new art installation in New York) whilst expanding his ambient project Liminal, releasing mixtapes and staging live ‘soundbaths’. Sigur Rós, not for the first time, went into hibernation. “It was normal for us to take a break, for two or three years,” explains Georg. “I guess it’s abnormal it being nine years between albums, but things happened. Maybe we would have been further into this project if it wasn’t for Covid, you never know.” Since leaving Sigur Rós’, Kjartan had written film soundtracks and collaborated with other artists whilst running the Sundlaugin studio outside of Iceland’s capital Reykjavik (where the band are recording the new album). But he and Jónsi also decided to collaborate again, free of expectations or deadlines, simply to enjoy the creative process again after all the stress. But when Georg heard they had created, “I thought, I can be part of that,” he says. Jónsi and Kjartan agreed. “Initially, it was nothing to do with Sigur Rós, but with time, it became the obvious way forward,” says Kjartan. “Georg brings so much energy.” As for Kjartan, “It’s great to have him back,” says Jónsi. “He’s such a genius melody-maker.” The template for the new album was, “Wouldn’t it be nice to do something beautiful?” Kjartan recalls. They’re deploying an orchestra for the first time on record since their fifth album, 2008’s Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, captured during recording sessions at London’s legendary Abbey Road studios. Also present will be the band’ signature sound: “Bold guitar and piano and Georg’s fat bass sounds,” says Kjartan. “Maybe not very rhythmically driven, but more atmospheric. Will there be drums? Possibly not. But everything seems quite open-ended. For example, we recorded a lot of electronics today. In the end, it might be completely different. That’s very Sigur Rós.” The band have not yet decided whether to bring string or brass players on tour with them, but the set list will include new songs aired for the first time and older songs from across their distinguished discography. But first there is an album to finish before tour rehearsals begin. “I’m sure we will pull through,” says Georg, “even if we’re under pressure right now. But it’s fun at the same time. I’m not too worried about the tour either. Five minutes before we walk on stage for the first show, I know it will be, ‘Let’s go!’” ends

In 2009, he made his debut as Troy Ave with I'm in Traffick. By the time he was selected as a member of XXL magazine's 2014 Freshman Class, his BSB label had well over a dozen of his releases in its discography. The biggest release was New York City: The Album , Collins ' first proper full-length, for many the introduction to the rapper's ruthless hustling narratives. Aided by appearances from Raekwon , Prodigy , and Pusha T , it appeared on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Another set regarded as an album, Major Without a Deal , arrived in 2015 and peaked at number 14 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In May of the following year, Collins was arrested for illegal weapon possession and attempted murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a T.I. concert in Manhattan. Collins , who was shot during the incident, claimed self-defense, and a mixtape, Free Troy Ave, was issued while he was remanded without bail. Eventually released on bond, Collins quickly returned with another 2016 tape, Roland Collins . The following year found him busy with two more releases, Dope Boy Troy and Album of the Summer . Her most recent endeavor is the acclaimed newly released “Adieu False Heart”, a CD of duets with the legendary Linda Ronstadt. As a musician she, has played guitar, fiddle, and accordion and traveled throughout the world with her husband accordionist Marc Savoy and fiddler Michael Doucet in the Savoy Doucet Cajun Band, with her all-woman band The Magnolia Sisters. and with Marc and their talented sons in the Savoy Family Band. She appears with her son Joel in the film Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood and performs three of the twelve cuts on the accompanying soundtrack on Sony Music. She has recorded twelve CDs on the Arhoolie, Rounder, and Vanguard labels. She is at this time working with renowned producer T Bone Burnett as associate music producer for the Sony film “All The King’s Men”, composing a song for the film which is performed by Ann Savoy and her Sleeplss Knights, her vintage style jazz group. Ann has appeared in many documentaries on the subject of Cajun music, including the PBS series American Roots Music, and with her husband was the subject of Les Blank’s film,”Marc and Ann”. She also works as an record producer for Vanguard Records, for whom she produced the Grammy nominated tribute to Cajun music, Evangeline Made, featuring, among others, pop and folk idols Linda Ronstadt, John Fogerty, Richard and Linda Thompson, Nick Lowe, and Rodney Crowell performing traditional Cajun tunes. Her second project for Vanguard, a tribute to Creole and Zydeco, entitled Creole Bred, came out in May 2004. In 2003 she produced a CD entitled Water From the Well for the state of Louisiana showcasing all the musical styles found within the Atchafalaya Heritage region. This CD can be obtained by sending a donation to the Atchafalaya Trace Commission, Dept of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in Baton Rouge. As a writer, she is the author of the Botkin award winning book, Cajun Music, A Reflection of a People, a book which chronicles the history of Cajun and Zydeco music through interviews, biographies, historic and current photographs, and song transcriptions. She wrote the chapter on Cajun and Zydeco in the recently released book, American Roots Music, Rolling Stone Press, as well as authoring numerous articles on Cajun music and historic CD booklets. < Hip Hop Roster JClay Hip Hop Acts Chicago, IL, USA < Previous Next > In 2006, JClay formed a trio with rappers Rahlo and Supreme called 5th Flow. 5th Flow was part of the underground hip hop scene in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston, Texas. The band's early release of Quarter To A Half Mixtape through its independent record label Pink Slip Records earned the group a grassroots fan base being featured on numerous mixtapes. In 2010, the success of 5th Flow's single "IM ON IT!" earned the group a merchandise deal with Shiekh Shoes in the store's Texas locations. After 5th Flow and Pink Slip Records dissolved in 2013, JClay and Supreme formed the rap duo 1st and independent record label The Slip Records. During that time, JClay and The Slip Records released a number of mixtapes and an 89-episode freestyle rap series called "Go With It Mondays" that featured new freestyles every Monday. In 2019, JClay released "Let Go" with the aim of healing those with mental illness. "Let Go" was produced by platinum producer Majestic Drama and featured on numerous Christian rap and mental health communities. After receiving over 90,000 Spotify views with "Let Go", JClay released singles "I Like You That Way" and "Right Now" in 2020 following a similar theme of healing and mental wellness. Our first goal was to get a CD out then start doing shows opposed to performing as a group then doing a CD release later once style was formed. It all started in Sept. of 2004 when we released our first CD entitled "Dis ain'tcha momma's Zodico" which featured the song "Bar be que and drink a few" and received a lot of air play throughout Louisiana. So, in Jan. 2005 we started doing live shows and formed a formal group. The first CD was such a success and the band draw at clubs/festivals became increasingly growing we decided it was time for another CD! So, in Sept. 2005 we released our second CD entitled "Zydeco Train" and have had several songs receive quite a bit of airplay including "Vibrator"....(number 1 requested song on several stations) the Cd also featured 2 of our most requested songs as well "Booty Call" and "Zydeco Train"! The CD according to several distributors in Louisiana and 7 of the major retail stores was the .. 1 selling CD in it's genre of music! In 2006 we decided to release 2 CD's! One being a Xmas CD entitled "Ho, Ho, Ho" and the other entitled "Booty Zydeco"! Our Xmas CD received instant air play with the song entiled "Santa Claus don't wear no draws" and our "Booty Zydeco" CD was nearly a double CD with 21 songs featuring 18 original songs and 3 covers! One of our original songs received instant attention from LSU fans around the world with the song entitled "Tiger Tailgate Party" landing us LSU shows and one including a party for LSU Alumni at "The House of Blues" in New Orleans! The song also got New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton's attention and we received a personal email from him saying that he enjoyed our group! In 2007 the band got a surprise visit from Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin's lead singer and front man)! He came out and heard our group and stayed and danced the entire night and visited with us after the show and said how he hadn't danced in 10 years and how much he enjoyed the show and through word of mouth heard that he told several people how much he enjoyed the band! So, being a huge fan of Robert Plant it was one of those moments for the band that will never be forgotten! In 2008 we released our 5th CD entitled HipHop Zyderock and was a Cd that blended all of our past styles and several new ideas that we wanted to express on CD. The styles ranged from Zydeco, rock, hip-hop, Cajun and everything in between along with our own ideas and styles. This CD we also decided to drop the term Zydeco from the band name for several different reasons. One being we played so many different styles of music that we didn't like being LABELED as a band that played one style and two being that it wasn't fair to Zydeco bands that we represented Zydeco with us doing so many styles so we decided to simply be "The Kingpins"! The CD featured several party songs and several risky songs that created controversy but also featured a song dedicated to our lost brother and band member Mathew "T-Clem" Cormier and the song was titled "Miss You", the song received several hundred and possibly thousands of emails and facebook messages saying how it touched so many people. The song is close to our heart and glad it helped so many people get through their time of lost! 2010 the band released "POP IT" CD and received several number one radio request spots for the song entitled "Tawanna" and even had rave reviews in other countries including France which wrote about the original French song entitled "Boire Le Biere/Drinking Beer". 2011 the band decided to do something totally different from our normal original CD's and record several old songs that inpsired us from both local and national artist including Chuck Barry, Little Richard, Johnnie Allen, TK Hulin and even featured the ever so famous "House of the rising sun". The Cd was entitled "OLD SCHOOL". The band released "Let's Party" CD in April of 2012 and blended all of their previous styles of creativity along with some brand new sounds which many who have heard consider it's own genre of music which is a huge compliment to the group. 2013 the band decided to do an all roots traditional style CD featuring our favorite cajun oldies entitled "Old time cajun songs". Not to confuse this CD with kingpins taking a different direction we simply titled the CD Travis Matte and did not include the Kingpins. The Cajun project was something close to our hearts and something we loved recording and hope everyone loves it as much as we loved recording it! In 2014 the band was awarded with 6 CFMA awards from the Old Time Cajun Songs recording and also released it's 10th record entitled "X" or simply roman numeral 10 which featured all original brand new Kingpins tunes including "When she's alone" and "Mardi Gras parade" which made nearly every Mardi Gras parade route. In 2015, the band released two singles which received tremendous air play "Bye Felicia" and "He don't know you like I do" and in December of 2015 released the full CD including the 2 singles "Highly Influenced" which was titled as such due to the amount of various influences the band has and seems to not fit into any particular genre very easy but it is one thing for sure and that is "The Kingpin Original Sound"! :-) We would like invite all of you guys to come and experience the Kingpins LIVE! In 2014 Marcella was featured on the cover of the Susan Schadt's cookbook Memphis: Sweet, Spicy and a little Greasy. Marcella also appeared in Samantha Crespo's book 100 things to do in Memphis Before You Die She has recorded with hip hop artist Cities Aviv, and was featured on the album “Digital Lows”(click album title to read the Pitchfork review from 2011). One of her contributions to the Cities project, the track “Black Box”, was featured on theindieplaylists.com (summer of 2011) compilation in the company of Arcade Fire, Mayer Hawthorne, Modest Mouse, Coldplay, and many others.
